Certificates are set to continue their dominance of Italian structured products in 2008 as attention turns to underlyings rather than payouts. As one of the major distributors in Italy, Banca Aletti continues to fuel certificates' success

The Italian structured products business is dominated by a booming certificates sector, with a primary market value of more than EUR4 billion accrued between October 2006 and September 2007, according to Milan-based investment bank Banca Aletti, part of the Banco Popolare di Verona e Novara group. The certificates market is on course to continue growing this year, following the 66.7% increase in secondary market value between 2006 and 2007.
