Rainy day in Georgia

An unfeasibly tough market has made life difficult for US brokers, but Georgia-based Smith & Howard Wealth Management is tackling the problem the old-fashioned way, with downside protection and the fail-safe certificate of deposit. Sophia Morrell talks with the firm's co-founder, Frederick Wright

It is hard to imagine more difficult market conditions for US distributors than the current climate. Smith & Howard Wealth Management has seen both rain and shine since it distributed its first structured product when it launched in 1999. "The concept was new to me then, I thought the maturities were a little bit long so I didn't do a lot," says Frederick Wright, co-founder and chief investment officer of the firm, who still works as an adviser and portfolio manager in the business.
