Barcap buys stake in energy investment firm

Barclays Capital has purchased a 40 per cent stake in energy investment firm NGP Capital Management.

The deal represents a considerable play into North American energy capital management by Barclays as it looks to “jump start” its presence in the direct energy investment business.

Based in Irving, Texas, the NGP platform includes a $2.9 billion North American private equity fund complex investing in oil and gas production, midstream and oilfield service companies as well as $350 million of co-investment funds that invest in direct oil and gas property interests alongside NGP portfolio companies
