globalCOAL futures set for September launch

Electronic coal marketplace provider globalCOAL will launch its financially settled Newcastle coal futures contracts on ICE Futures Europe on September 5.

The contracts will track the booming Asia-Pacific coal market, and globalCOAL CEO Eoghan Cunningham expects them to generate significant liquidity from physical coal players, who will benefit from the credit risk mitigation of a cleared contract, and financial players − such as investment banks and hedge funds − who wish to gain exposure to the sector’s performance.
