Asian growth to boost hedge funds

2005 a relatively good year for hedge funds, but convertible arbitrage still down

Last year was better for hedge funds globally than 2004, and Asian economic growth should help funds maintain that momentum this year, said Swiss firm RMF Investment Management, part of alternative investment specialist Man Investments, in a recent statement. And this is a widely held view in the market, from a glance at other firms' hedge fund indexes.

Hedge funds as a group posted a return of 10.88% for the year, according to managed-futures adviser the Barclay Group, up from 8.8% in 2004
