Negli ultimi 18 mesi, il settore privato delle cartolarizzazioni di attivita non standard, quali i crediti fiscali e sanitari e cresciuto in Italia fino a diventare una solida realta. Se da un lato risulta complesso valutarne le dimensioni data la sua natura privata, secondo le banche le operazioni in essere ammonterebbero a decine di miliardi di euro, segnate da un'ulteriore crescita negli ultimi mesi.
