Banking crisis boosts exchange volumes

High market volatility and uncertainty over the recent banking crisis has pushed up futures' trading volumes at the major commodity exchanges, exchange data has shown.

Total September and October volumes traded at the London Metal Exchange (LME) and the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) have all surpassed last year's levels.

IntercontinentalExchange's (ICE's) September volumes were also significantly up on 2007
