Holding steady

It’s looking to be another dismal year for the cash equities business in Asia. The region’s stock markets are still lumbering near record lows, and in the case of Japan, the Nikkei 225 stock index is currently at the same level it reached in 1983. The cash equities business has effectively been kyboshed.

For equity derivatives professionals, however, the ongoing slump has been less disastrous. In the corporate business, the region’s firms are still looking to equity derivatives instruments
