Blackout report points finger at FirstEnergy

An interim report by the task force into the US-Canada power system outage in August has laid much of the blame for the largest blackout in North American history with Ohio utility, FirstEnergy (FE).

The report charged FE with failing to maintain the company’s transmission lines and both FE and the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator with failure to notify neighboring power companies as the problem escalated.
