Essent Trading - Scaling barriers
In a frank appraisal of the state of energy trading in Europe, Essent Trading CEO Paymon Aliabadi tells Roderick Bruce about Essent's attempts to overcome the issues that still confront traders, and his vision for an integrated European market
Paymon Aliabadi, CEO of Essent Trading since 2004, has overseen the company's rise from being the trading arm of a Dutch utility to its position today as a pan-international commodity trader and originator. Founded in 1999 to manage Essent's diverse portfolio of assets and long-term contracts, Essent Trading has grown from a staff of 50 focused on dispatch and power in the Benelux region to a 300-strong team, and from initially providing about 10% of the group's revenues to about 35% today.
