SSE and Iberdrola join forces for UK nuclear

UK utility Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has joined forces with Spanish utility Iberdrola to help kick-start the UK's nuclear new build programme. They will begin by securing potential sites for nuclear power stations and work alongside UK government agencies, the companies said in a joint-statement.

The venture is considered an important step towards securing future electricity supply to the UK and reducing CO2 emissions. "Iberdrola is committed to the UK market, and welcomes the UK government's plans to develop new nuclear power plants for low-carbon energy supply," says Pedro Azagra, Iberdrola's director of development.
