Nabucco pipeline construction deal agreed

Five transit countries have signed an agreement to construct the €8 billion, 3300 km Nabucco natural gas pipeline.

Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Austria have been working on the Nabucco project with the European Commission for seven years and the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) guarantees stable legal framework for gas transit. "Industry experts believe the arrival of the first gas could be as early as 2014 or 2015," stated European Commission President José Manuel Barroso.
