Amerex gains sulpur dioxide trading privileges on CCX

Houston-based broker Amerex Energy has obtained SO 2 trading privileges on the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), an emissions-trading marketplace. Amerex can now broker futures contracts in trading increments of 25-tonne SO2 allowances. The standard over-the-counter trading increment is 2,500 tonnes.

Amerex has gained the trading privileges on the Chicago Climate Futures Exchange (CCFE), a subsidiary of the CCX that offers standardised and cleared futures contracts for sulphur financial instruments (SFIs). SFIs are the SO2 credits traded on the exchange.

The exchange launched trading of SO2 futures on December 10 – prior to that, there was only a cash OTC market for SO2 allowances. CCX said before the futures launch that it would offer a limited number of trading privilege memberships to
