With energy producers struggling to find liquidity in loan markets, the search was on for alternative sources of funding, whether from export credit agencies, capital markets or sovereign wealth funds. US bond markets were particularly resilient and Barclays was quick to take advantage, operating a winning combination of its European heritage and growing US franchise.
