Philipp Hiemann is an economist and doctoral researcher at the RWI – Leibniz Institute of Economic Research in Essen, Germany. His research interests include energy economics, transport economics, the theory and practice of economic regulation, and behavioural economics. He is regularly working with large panel data sets and applies survey experiments in policy-relevant areas. Currently, he is mainly working on projects related to the energy transition. A special focus of his work lies on the heating sector and the decarbonisation of private heating. Besides working as a researcher, he works as an assistant to the Board of Directors of the RWI.

Before joining the RWI, Philipp Hiemann worked for several years as an economist at NERA Economic Consulting in Berlin, where his work mainly focused on projects in the energy, transport and infrastructure sector. He advised clients in large infrastructure acquisitions (for instance in district heating and natural gas networks) as well as international arbitration projects and supported regulatory proceedings on diverse issues. Philipp Hiemann holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Economics from Bielefeld University and a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
