Hedge funds have been growing at an alarming rate, witnessing a trebling of assets under management in Europe to $279 billion in 2005 from 2003 figures. Globally, 8,000 hedge funds invest over $1 trillion in alternative strategies, according to hedge fund information provider Eurohedge.
