Having been at the forefront of market-consistent valuations, Danish pension fund Pen-Sam is now looking at the wider implications of risk management. Aaron Woolner reports

The Nordic social welfare system is the envy of most of its peers, and with per capita spending on healthcare in Denmark well above its European neighbours, the Danes clearly take the treatment of patients very seriously. But what happens to those looking after the sick and injured when they reach the end of their working lives - who cares for the carers?

The answer is Pen-Sam, at least for the less glamorous side of the medical profession. Just as doctors and nurses have their own pension funds
