Risk management tools and techniques have gained increasing power in Asia’s surging private wealth market during the past 15 years. Now some leading private bankers believe risk management is redefining the traditional banking relationship in the region. Jill Wong reports

The relationship manager (RM) continues to play the most pivotal role when it comes to keeping the private bank clients happy. Often their work involves dealing with non-financial issues such as providing access to exclusive events, shopping or entertainment; helping with family issues; and philanthropy, as well as helping clients achieve returns on their portfolios by providing advice and execution services.

During recent years, however, the private banking model appears to be changing
