Geopolitical risk is a catch-all term for a very broad, seemingly unquantifiable phenomenon. New and old companies are going into the business of pinning it down, packaging it into data and indexes, and selling it to hedge funds. How reliable are these indexes? How are they totted up? And how useful are they?
