Investable indexes: April 2012 returns

Hedge fund indexes fell in April, with the exception of the HFRX Global Hedge Fund Index, which ended the month up 0.12%. Many strategies were flat in April and some have had good gains year-to-date.

Dow Jones/Credit Suisse
The Dow Jones Credit Suisse Hedge Fund Index was down 0.04% in April after gains of 0.05% in March. This brings year-to-date performance to 4%, with all but three of the listed strategies posting declines.

The biggest mover in April was dedicated short bias, which saw a drop of 2.53%. Also showing volatility was fixed income arbitrage which gained 0.69%. This follows a fall of 4.66% in February and a further decline of 1.35% in March.
