Like other groups that moved into hedge funds from the long-only space, AXA Framlington had to wrestle with the question of how best to integrate its new alternatives venture with its existing business when it began its move into hedge funds back in 2004.

The firm decided to launch products at a gradual and considered rate, around one a year, and is eager to avoid the pitfalls it sees among some of its peers of looking to provide a broadly diversified product range quickly.
