Paul Dunning has brought a wealth of high-level experience to what is now HSBC Republic Investments and, having seen first-hand how institutional attitudes have changed towards hedge funds, shares his view of the future

When Paul Dunning joined the Republic National Bank of New York in 1995, it was a US commercial bank with a large private banking presence in Europe and a range of private client fund of hedge fund products launched just a year before his arrival. In January 2000, the company was bought by HSBC, which retained a core of about 20 employees who had been with the firm since around 1996.
