Structured product houses in Asia have faced some unique challenges in the past year. Distributors in two of the region’s biggest markets for retail structured products – South Korea and Japan – have been subject to tighter regulations after tumbling equity indexes left some products under water. Higher rates in the US and Europe, meanwhile, mean investors have had less of a need for exotic structures to achieve satisfactory returns.
