Quant Guide 2020: University of Bologna
Bologna, Italy
The University of Bologna’s two-year Master in Quantitative Finance makes its third appearance in the Risk.net quant guide. The programme is taught in English, and associate professor of statistical sciences Silvia Romagnoli is its academic director. The latest cohort totalled 125 students, 31 of them from outside Italy. The pool of teaching staff is large, with 50 instructors for the various modules.
New classes added for this year include: credit risk, advanced numerical finance, a workshop in stochastic differential equations and partial differential equations, real analysis and advanced differential analysis. A number of new instructors have joined, too: these include Giovanni Della Lunga of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena; Vali Asimit of the Cass Business School; Jan Dhaene of KU Leuven; and Flavio Cocco of consulting firm Prometeia. Romagnoli adds that the programme’s virtual platform has also been expanded. After two semesters, students can undertake internships in Italy.
To stay up to date with industry trends and demands, Romagnoli says the programme takes guidance from a steering committee and representatives from the financial sector.
