Calpine completes project financing in Wisconsin

California power company Calpine Corp has completed a $230 million non-recourse project financing for its 600-megawatt (MW) gas-fuelled electricity-generating Riverside Energy Center in Beloit, Wisconsin.

On completion of the project in June 2004, San José-based Calpine willsell 450MW of electricity to Wisconsin Power and Light under the terms of a nine-yeartolling agreement and provide 75MW of capacity to Madison Gas & Electricunder a nine-year power sales agreement.

A group of banks – including Credit Lyonnais, Co-Bank, Bayerische Landesbank,HypoVereinsbank and NordLB – will finance construction of the plant ata rate of Libor plus 250 basis points (bp).
