Rosario N. Mantegna received his PhD in physics from Palermo University in 1990. He is professor at Central European University, Budapest, Hungary in a joint appointment of the Center of Network Science and of the Department of Economics, and at Palermo University, Palermo, Italy where he established the Observatory of Complex Systems in 1999. His research concerns interdisciplinary applications of statistical physics and network science with major emphasis on topics of finance and social sciences. He was the first to introduce similarity based networks in the analysis and modeling of financial systems in 1999. He is one of the pioneers in the field of econophysics, in fact he published the first paper on econophysics in 1991 and co-authored the first English book on econophysics in 2000.
