Emir clearing rules agreed - but calls grow for delay to Esma deadlines

Delays in the adoption of Europe's new clearing rules have eaten into the time Esma has to meet its June 30 rule-writing deadline

UPDATE FEB 13: The final Emir text has not been published, but sources close to the negotiations say the original June 30 deadline for much of Esma's work has been extended to September.

 

After three months of final-stage discussions, the text of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (Emir) was agreed this afternoon by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union (EU).

The text creates a framework for the clearing and reporting of over-the-counter derivatives - radical
