Regulators threaten closer hedge fund supervision

A third of hedge funds are expected to go as the threat of regulation looms sparking a survival of the fittest contest

Grim forecasts about the future of hedge funds abound in the media, and with the FSA announcing that more regulation is to come, those forecasts will only increase as the smaller, high-profit, entities decide to cut their losses and pull out of the market rather than be encumbered with red-tape. For the larger funds, however, there will be a renewed focus on best-practice standards for risk management, specifically a renewed emphasis on operational risk management – often seen as the forgotten
