NYSE Arca rolls out initiatives to attract ETP listings

Despite being home to roughly 1,400 of the 1,500 ETPs listed in the US, NYSE Arca faces tough competition from rival exchanges and dark pools. Yakob Peterseil talks to Laura Morrison, the exchange's senior vice-president for global index and exchange-traded products

It is increasingly common to hear that launching an exchange-traded product (ETP) is harder today than ever, and due to the scarcity of new issues - 2013 saw half as many launches as 2011 and the lowest number since 2009 - competition among exchanges to list ETPs is keen. To the exchanges' chagrin, however, when products do make it to market they often do not stick around for very long.

Since its creation by merger in 2006, NYSE Arca has muscled its way to the top of the ETP listings market, but
